Empathy Makes the Difference!

We have been learning about looking for clues to see how others feel. You now understand that you can watch someone's facial expressions and body movements, as well as listen to the sound of their voice to see how they are feeling. In this week's stories, our friends started to realize that they share many of these feelings in common with the people around them. They connected their friend's feelings to experiences that they have had, and that helped them be kind and helpful when others were in need.

When we use our own experiences to understand how others feel and help them, we are being empathetic. If we have been sad, scared, or angry in the past, we can use those experiences to help others when they are feeling the same way. We can share strategies and ideas, or even just encourage those around us. We can use empathy to be considerate of others. Empathy is the key to being a great friend! This week, pay close attention to how others are feeling. Ask yourself if you have ever felt the same way? What helped you to feel better or find success? Use those experiences to help your friends and family. They will appreciate you and you will feel wonderful about being such a great friend!
